Description
Also known as “Tulsi”, this relative of common basil is native to India and highly regarded in Ayurveda. This plant holds the position of the “Queen of Herbs” in Ayurvedic texts dating as far back as 5,000 BC. Holy Basil is considered an adaptogen, which increase the body’s ability to adapt to physical, biological, emotional, and environmental stressors and have a normalizing effect on the entire system. Recent research has shown holy basil’s ability to lower cortisol, improve memory, concentration, and cerebral circulation. This may be effective in treating attention deficit and reducing the stress response. It has been shown to lower blood sugar and unhealthy cholesterol. Holy Basil is often used to move stagnant energy, including food stagnation as well as the energy channels through the heart and head. In our ever-increasing toxic urban environments, Holy Basil may be a great ally with its radioprotective and detoxifying effects.
