Description

Elderberry, or elder, with its opening and antimicrobial properties has been used for centuries to treat respiratory illnesses such as colds and flus. Elder opens all the channels of the body, allowing energy and fluids to flow with less obstruction. All parts of the plant are used for similar purposes, but the berries contain bioflavonoids (micronutrients) that are nutritive and blood building to treat anemia and weakness due to malnourishment. In cases where the skin has red or blue marbling (indicating a lack of circulation in the peripheral tissues) these nutritive compounds, along with elder’s diaphoretic (opening) property, can resolve constriction in those areas adding nourished blood to improve the complexion of the skin, especially of the “cheeky” parts of the body.
