Broomcraft
Abbey is the broom-maker and owner of Broomcraft, located in the Willamette Valley. She learned this style of traditional Appalachian broom-making from T. Scheumack, who learned broom-making nearly 40 years ago at the Ozark Heritage Museum in Arkansas.
"Broom-making belongs to all of us.
Brooms are a tool and a symbol that unite us across timelines, cultures, and regions. Everyone has an ancestor who made a broom. Everyone owns one.
I make brooms in devotion to the sanctity of our daily tasks and the tools used to complete them. The brooms are inspired by the seasons, natural fibers and dyes, and our spaces that need cleaning."
