Dandelion leaf is the ideal spring cleanser, bitter, and tonic. Its old world use as a spring salad green is still in some use today. The leaves are more diuretic, having affinity for the kidneys. They are full of vitamins and minerals that feed our tissues; and secondary metabolites that protect our cells and help rid our bodies of toxins. The special aspect of this diuretic is that it also adds minerals such as potassium (up to 4.5% by weight) to replenish the loss through urination. Most other diuretics are depleting to the mineral content of our kidneys. Dandelion works well for most chronic inflammatory conditions, even in severe cases where the heat and fluids have gone as deep as the bone layer.
